Earlier this year the courts intervened in an animal neglect case and removed two coonhounds from a home where they had suffered extreme neglect and abuse. Placed in the local animal shelter, the outlook was bleak. The Friends of Bedford County Animal Shelter (FOBCAS) gave these dogs special attention – due to malnutrition and associated health issues – so that they could have a chance of survival.
The shelter’s resources were limited and couldn’t be so disproportionately spent on two dogs so FOBCAS contacted American Black and Tan Coonhound Rescue (ABTCR) for help. Due to concerns about a stressful transport and continued necessary medical treatment, ABTCR contacted HoundPilot to quickly transport. Within hours “Hambone” was in a foster home 400 nautical miles northeast where he could be cared for and will now find a forever home of his own.
